Spanish workers will pay a higher pension contribution in 2027
From January 2027, Spain will raise its Intergenerational Equity Mechanism contribution for workers and employers.
The contribution is an additional payment intended to help fund the public pension system.
It will rise from 0.90% in 2026 to 1% of each worker’s contribution base, with 0.17% paid by the worker and 0.83% by the employer.
For someone with a monthly contribution base of €2,000, the worker’s share will be about €3.40 a month, while the employer will pay €16.60.
The increase is intended to help cover higher pension costs as the baby-boom generation retires, and the rate is set to reach 1.2% in 2029 and remain there until 2050.
Contribution bases for higher-paid workers will also continue to rise, while the maximum pension will increase 0.115% above inflation in 2027.
