Ghost Bikes to Shut Down After No Buyer Is Found
Ghost-Bikes GmbH is preparing to shut down after efforts to find a buyer failed.
The company is based in Waldsassen, Germany, and makes mountain bikes under the Ghost brand.
Its parent company, Accell Group, began insolvency proceedings for German subsidiaries in August amid falling demand, excess stock and price pressure.
The remaining bicycles will be sold to one dealer before the business winds down.
The closure affects 53 Ghost Bikes employees, and the company hopes they will find new jobs.
The decision followed a search for investors, but no offer was judged better for creditors than selling the stock.
The Ghost brand's future is still unclear, and no details have been announced about warranty coverage, parts or after-sales support.

What people are saying
I deeply regret that, despite intensive efforts, no solution for the continuation of GhostBikes GmbH could be found. All that remains for us is to wind down operations in an orderly manner. I hope that all employees of the company will be able to find new employment quickly.
We were closely involved in the investor process from the very beginning. Ultimately, however, no offer was received for Ghost-Bikes GmbH that would have put the creditors in a better position than an orderly sale of the inventory. This is the best option economically; therefore, we are pursuing it.
