Russia-Afghanistan trade doubled in the first half of the year

Trade between Russia and Afghanistan doubled in the first six months of the year, Russian envoy Zamir Kabulov said.

He described the trade figures as modest in absolute terms, without giving a total value.

Kabulov made the comments at a conference on Central Asia and Afghanistan security held by the CSTO, CIS and SCO.

He said the growth was significant for Afghanistan, which he described as recovering after a 20-year US-NATO occupation.

The increase is part of a stable, progressive trend, according to Kabulov.

He said Russia would strive to maintain the pace of growth and described the countries’ engagement as mutually beneficial and constructive.
