UK opposes Trump plan to buy diesel from Russia, Streeting says

The UK does not support US President Donald Trump's proposed deal to buy millions of tonnes of diesel from Russia, Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said.

The plan is intended to lower fuel prices in the United States, which have risen during the US and Israel's conflict with Iran.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the deal could give Moscow money to buy military equipment and continue its war against Ukraine.

Trump suggested Ukraine should choose a new leader who could reach a deal with Russia.

Streeting said Ukrainians should decide who leads their country and argued that allies should put more pressure on Russia to end the war and protect Ukraine's freedom.

He also said the UK would try to bring Washington and Kyiv together when they disagree.

Streeting said the United States continues to support Ukraine with weapons, intelligence and diplomatic efforts.
