Turkey permits up to 3 million litres of biodiesel for COP31 generators

Turkey’s energy regulator has approved up to 3 million litres of biodiesel for generators at COP31, the climate conference to be held in Antalya.

The fuel must be bought directly from licensed producers in Turkey and is intended only for electricity generation at the conference.

The regulator says the permission covers conference generators only, not other uses.

The biodiesel cannot be mixed with other fuels, sold or transferred to someone else.

Its supply, use and return must be recorded and tracked.

Officials say using biodiesel made from sustainable materials, including used cooking oil, can support local production and reduce greenhouse gas emissions over its life cycle.

The move is presented as a practical way for Turkey to demonstrate renewable-energy use while hosting an international climate event.
