Punjab Congress demands CM’s resignation after anti-drug campaigner is killed

Anti-drug campaigner Parvinder Singh Jhota was killed in Mansa, Punjab.

At a Punjab Assembly session, lawmakers paid tribute to Jhota, who had spoken out against drug use and trafficking.

Congress lawmakers burned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s effigy and demanded his resignation, blaming him for the state’s law-and-order problems.

Mann also holds the Home portfolio, which oversees state policing.

Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon accused the government of avoiding accountability and said the short session did not address the state’s problems.

The criticism comes amid wider concerns about drugs, gang activity and extortion in Punjab.

The opposition is demanding answers from the state government, while Dhillon said the BJP would form the government in Punjab in 2027.

It is the voice of the entire Punjab that law and order has completely ended in Punjab. No person’s life is safe in this State, no one’s business is safe, no one’s work is safe, no one’s family is safe. So, we are asking for Bhagwant Mann’s resignation.
