Hana and Woori report strong third-quarter profits

Hana Financial Group reported a record third-quarter profit of 1.2214 trillion won in South Korea.

Higher fee income from wealth management and investment banking helped Hana’s results.

Hana plans to buy back and cancel another 250 billion won of shares, bringing its planned total for the year to about 949 billion won, a record.

Woori Financial Group also earned more than 1 trillion won for a second straight quarter, posting 1.0492 trillion won.

Its profit was lower than a year earlier, but Woori said it rose 18.7% after excluding one-time gains tied to life-insurance acquisitions.

Woori Bank’s quarterly profit topped 1 trillion won for the first time, supported by growth in lending and interest income.

Hana’s non-bank businesses contributed 14.6% of profit, a challenge for the group, while Woori’s board approved a third-quarter dividend of 220 won per share.
