United flight returns to Las Vegas after reported hijacking threat

A United flight from Las Vegas to Newark turned back on Saturday night after a passenger disturbance.

The pilot told air traffic controllers that a flight attendant had seen a passenger texting that he planned to hijack the aircraft.

United said the plane returned safely to Harry Reid International Airport over a potential security concern.

The Boeing 737 had 150 passengers and six crew members on board.

Authorities had not said whether anyone was detained, and it was unclear whether anyone was arrested.

The flight was delayed overnight because the crew had reached its time limit, then departed for Newark on Sunday morning.
