Two orangutans rescued from wildfire in Central Kalimantan

A male and female orangutan were rescued from a wildfire on Thursday, November 5, in Kotawaringin Barat, Central Kalimantan.

The animals, named Fajar and Fitri, were found in the Wanawiyata area, where part of their habitat had burned.

The Meniti Fajar Forest Farmers Group worked with YUPI and the Pangkalan Bun Natural Resources Conservation Agency to evacuate them.

The rescue was organized because the fire threatened their habitat.

The orangutans are being kept safe while staff check their health and give them vitamins.

The group has prepared a community-managed forest in Mendawai Seberang as a planned release site for the pair.
