Production designer Alexander Kondratov dies in Moscow after treason arrest

Alexander Kondratov, a 52-year-old production designer, has died in a Moscow hospital after being held in detention on treason charges.

He had lived in Kyiv since 2012 and returned to Russia to renew his passport.

Russian border guards detained him at Vnukovo Airport in May, and he spent more than 70 days in custody before being held on treason charges in August.

The case reportedly involved at least six online posts, but their contents have not been disclosed.

Kondratov was known for his work on the 2007 detective series Liquidation, which earned him the TEFI and Golden Eagle awards.

He was taken from detention to hospital on October 23, and the cause of his death has not been made public.

The sources give no information about what happens next in the case.
