Criminal Minds to end after 20 seasons, with final episodes in 2027

Paramount+ will end Criminal Minds: Evolution after its 20th season, with the final episodes due in 2027.

The crime drama began on CBS in 2005, following FBI profilers who investigate crimes by studying offenders’ behavior.

After its original run ended in 2020, the series returned on Paramount+ in 2022 under the Evolution name.

The final season will bring back familiar cast members, including Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster.

Vangsness, who plays Penelope Garcia, said she learned the news about 90 minutes before it was made public and described her feelings as bittersweet.

The franchise is reaching the end of a 20-season run, an unusually long stretch for a television drama.

Showrunner Erica Messer said the cast and crew are preparing to share season 20 and celebrate the show’s legacy, while Vangsness said she would welcome the chance to tell more stories elsewhere.
