Indonesia’s Home Affairs Minister Urges Jakarta to Fund Home Repairs

Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian urged Jakarta to fund repairs to unfit homes during a visit to Kampung Ambon in West Jakarta on Saturday.

He asked Governor Pramono Anung to change the city budget to include the work.

Jakarta officials said there was no budget for the program in 2026, even though government data put the number of unfit homes in the city at 821,840.

The visit included a home renovation project for an elderly resident in Kampung Ambon, an area Tito said people did not want known as a drug village.

Tito said better housing could help address problems in communities and support residents’ hopes for a better life.

He called on Jakarta and other local governments to fund similar programs for people living in unfit homes.
