Bears’ Montez Sweat suspended for two games under NFL drug policy

The NFL suspended Chicago Bears defensive lineman Montez Sweat for two games for violating the league’s drug policy.

The suspension is without pay, and Sweat is scheduled to miss Chicago’s game against the Atlanta Falcons and a home game against the New England Patriots.

He could lose about $2.32 million in salary during the suspension, based on his reported $20.9 million base salary for this year.

Sweat joined the Bears from the Washington Commanders in 2023 and is in the final year of a four-year, $98 million contract.

The suspension comes as Chicago is 3-2, after a 31-7 loss to Green Bay last week.

The team is also without starting quarterback Caleb Williams, who was injured in Week 2.

Sweat is eligible for reinstatement on October 23, while Williams could return as soon as the Atlanta game, though his coach said the timing is uncertain.
