Samih Sawiris plans sports-focused luxury hotel in Andermatt
Investor Samih Sawiris is developing The Alpinist in Andermatt Reuss, Switzerland, with an opening planned for 2027 or 2028.
The five-star hotel is designed for guests who ski, climb, bike and train in the Alps.
It is planned to have 66 rooms and suites and 164 branded residences.
Facilities will include a spa, gym, indoor and outdoor pools, a bar and lounge, alongside an Alpine Butler service and an Alpine Experience Hub.
The hotel’s managers say it will combine alpine sports culture with high-end hospitality, a category they say has no close equivalent in the Swiss Alps.
The hotel is expected to open in 2027 or 2028, and General Manager Lorenz Maurer will help build its team and service culture before then.

What people are saying
The Alpinist is tailored to a group of guests I understand well: people who train and perform in the mountains and expect the same standard of service once they are back in the hotel.
The new offering serves the intersection between alpine sports culture and first-class hospitality – a category for which, in the view of Andermatt Hospitality Management, there is no real equivalent in the Swiss Alps.
