Turkey aims to expand domestic production of medical technology

At a biomedical technology congress in Antalya, Turkey's health minister urged greater domestic medical technology production.

Kemal Memişoğlu said the country has built a large health system over the past 25 years and can serve patients from Turkey and other countries.

He said Turkey should become a production and innovation center, not just a market for health technology.

The ministry's TÜSEB agency is intended to help turn ideas into products, including by connecting ideas shared through a health portal with patent support, funding and industry.

Memişoğlu said locally made ventilators are exported to 45 countries, and a Turkish-made heart-lung machine has been used in 60 patients.

He also said domestic ultrasound production is targeted within two years, while work is under way on other products, including oxygenators and robotic surgery devices.

The ministry invited health workers and biomedical staff to submit ideas, but the sources give no further timetable for the other projects.

Dünya şunu görmeli, evet Türkiye artık bir pazar değil; bir ortak, bir yeni üretici, yeni inovatif merkezi olarak Türkiye'yi tanımlaması lazım.
