Michael Douglas recounts Hollywood incidents and family struggles in memoir

Michael Douglas’s memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” was released on Oct.

6.

In it, the actor and producer recalls a dinner where actress Debra Winger bit his arm while he and filmmakers were trying to persuade her to star in “Romancing the Stone.”

Winger did not take the role, and Kathleen Turner was cast instead.

Douglas also describes confronting Julia Roberts at a Golden Globes party when she had her arm around his teenage son, Cameron.

He says he was drunk, later apologized to Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland, and sent Roberts roses.

The memoir also covers Douglas’s struggles with alcohol and drug use, his son Cameron’s addiction and imprisonment, and Douglas’s stage IV cancer diagnosis.

These accounts describe how addiction and illness affected his family and his own life.

The book was released on Oct.
