Israeli army chief warns of rising risk of regional escalation

Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir warned that the risk of escalation in the Middle East has grown.

He made the warning at a briefing at the army’s Central Command.

Zamir said alerts had increased across all fronts and described the period as sensitive.

Israeli forces have been reinforced and their readiness raised across their deployment areas.

The army is preparing for possible surprise attacks, he said.

Zamir said the forces are ready to launch extensive offensive operations against anyone who tries to harm Israeli civilians.

He also called for continued vigilance and readiness on every front.
