Stellantis to halt Melfi plant production until 6 November
Stellantis will stop production at its Melfi plant from 2 to 6 November because it lacks components.
The factory is in the Basilicata region of southern Italy, and the stoppage affects a workforce facing ongoing production cuts and changes to work schedules.
The plant made 47,580 cars in the first nine months of 2026, up 77.2% from the same period in 2025.
But output remained 76.4% below the same period in 2019, and the plant had 87 days of collective stoppages in the first nine months of this year.
The rise in factory output has not ended wider job concerns, especially among suppliers affected by fewer orders and reliance on support schemes.
Other open disputes in the region involve the CallMat call centre in Matera and the MerMec-Ferrosud rail group.
Basilicata's CGIL union is calling on the government to open urgent talks about the region's employment disputes; the plant's announced production schedule for November includes alternating weeks of two daily shifts.
Stellantis will halt production at its San Nicola di Melfi plant from 2 to 6 November because of a shortage of components.
The stoppage comes despite a sharp increase in production during the first nine months of 2026.
Fim Cisl said the plant produced 47,580 vehicles in that period, 77.2% more than in the same period of 2025.
Production was still 76.4% below the total for the first nine months of 2019.
Unions have also raised concerns about the certainty of work schedules and the plant’s production continuity.
