Swiss Green Liberals back AHV funding plan despite reservations
At a meeting in Bern, Switzerland’s Green Liberal Party backed extra funding for the 13th AHV pension payment, but said its support came with reservations.
The party said a moderate increase in value-added tax would help cover the cost, while calling for a lasting reform of the state pension system.
It also backed an initiative to restrict fireworks and rejected a proposal on how married couples are taxed.
The party said voters had approved individual taxation in March and that decision should be put into effect.
Swiss voters will decide on these proposals and a change to the War Materials Act on November 29; the party had already backed the law change in April.
The funding vote matters because it would help pay for the 13th pension payment, while the party says the AHV still faces other challenges.

The party described its support as reluctant after intensive discussions at its delegates’ meeting in Bern.
It said the funding plan would provide partial financing but that the AHV still needs a sustainable reform.
