Bordeaux beat Stade Montois 4-1 in front of a Regional 1 record crowd

Girondins de Bordeaux beat Stade Montois 4-1 in Bordeaux in their first home game of the season.

The match was played at Stade Atlantique in France’s Regional 1, the level Bordeaux compete in after dropping below the national divisions.

A crowd of 11,163 set a Regional 1 attendance record for a match.

Stade Montois took the lead through Brandon Moenza in the 20th minute, but Ruben Droehnlé equalised from a penalty.

Steve Shamal scored three goals to put Bordeaux ahead and extend their lead after the break.

The win followed Bordeaux’s victory at Bayonne the previous week.

Bordeaux are seen as strong favourites for promotion, and the result strengthened that view; the sources give no further details about what happens next.
