Thief takes spritz ingredients from a Venice restaurant, leaving pricier bottles

A burglar broke into Orient Experience in Venice during the night between Sunday and Monday.

The restaurant is in Campo Santa Margherita and is run by Afghan-born restaurateur Hamed Mohammad Kharim, with staff from different countries.

The thief took about ten bottles of spritz ingredients—Aperol, Campari and Select—and the cash drawer, which held only a few coins.

Wine and other spirits, including more expensive bottles, were left behind.

The damage is estimated at nearly €1,000, with replacing the forced and unusable entrance door expected to cost about €500.

No cameras or witnesses have been reported, and Kharim went to the authorities to file a complaint.

Kharim’s other restaurant had four break-ins in three months last year, but those incidents were at Africa Experience, not Orient Experience.
