Two police officers in Chaykovsky accused of seeking a bribe from a drunk driver

Two police officers in Chaykovsky, in Russia’s Perm region, are accused of seeking a bribe from a driver who was drunk.

Investigators say the officers demanded 200,000 rubles in exchange for not imposing administrative penalties.

The driver paid 100,000 rubles that day, and the rest was to be delivered through an intermediary.

He told Russia’s Federal Security Service, which oversaw a later transfer of 60,000 rubles to the intermediary.

The officers and intermediary were detained during that transfer, and the officers are now under house arrest.

Criminal cases have also been opened against the driver and the intermediary.

The officers have been removed from duty, and the regional Interior Ministry says they could be dismissed if found guilty; the investigation is continuing.
