Indonesia Names Five Suspects in BNPB Disaster-Fund Case

Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency named five suspects in a BNPB disaster-fund case involving money set aside for emergency response.

The case involves Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency and includes Bima Setiawan, brother of former agency chief Suharyanto.

Investigators describe two alleged schemes: one involving vendors linked to Bima, and another involving payments tied to procurement projects.

They say emergency funds were used for disaster response, including wildfire and earthquake-related needs, and allege some funds went toward private interests.

Investigators say Bima used money linked to the case to buy shares in a company.

All five suspects were detained for an initial 20 days, from October 14 to November 2, 2026.

The case is under investigation, and the suspects face alleged corruption or bribery offences.
