South Korean conference reviews Daegu-Gyeongbuk regional integration

Gyeongsangbuk-do province and the Korea Association for Public Administration held a conference on local government reform on October 23 at National Gyeongkuk University.

Participants discussed ways to strengthen decentralization and give local governments more power to make decisions.

They reviewed the direction of Daegu-Gyeongbuk administrative integration, a proposed unification of the two areas' administrations.

They also examined the Jeonnam-Gwangju integration case.

The discussions covered how a new government for Gyeongsangbuk-do and Daegu could be designed, along with digital change and cooperation in public organizations.

A Gyeongsangbuk-do official said the province would apply conference recommendations to its policies.

The province did not give a timetable or announce a decision on integration.
