Bioport takes control of sweet-potato snack maker Family Farm
South Korean food company Bioport has taken control of Family Farm, which makes the sweet-potato snack Basakago.
Family Farm is based in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, and makes the snack by baking thin slices of locally grown sweet potatoes rather than frying them.
The snack gained attention after appearing on a popular TV show, leading to online sell-outs and requests from overseas markets including Taiwan and Japan.
Bioport and Family Farm have worked together since 2022, with Bioport distributing most of Family Farm’s output.
Rising orders have outstripped production capacity, even as the factory has run around the clock and on weekends.
Bioport says it will expand production equipment to increase supply and combine Family Farm’s manufacturing with its sales network.
The company plans to use its distribution network in 33 countries to grow exports and develop more healthy snacks using domestic farm produce.
