Zelenskyy meets Merz in Berlin to discuss winter aid for Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meeting Friedrich Merz in Berlin to discuss support for Ukraine.
The talks include financial aid for Ukraine over the winter, after Russian air attacks targeted its energy infrastructure in recent months.
Ukraine also needs air-defence missiles to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
Germany says it has already supplied all the Patriot systems it can spare without putting its own air defence at risk.
US, Russian and Ukrainian officials are due to hold talks in Abu Dhabi next week on security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian aid and steps toward peace.
European governments want to be involved, though Germany expects they may not have a seat at the Abu Dhabi talks.
Merz previously promised further support for Ukraine's air defence, while EU leaders have not committed to the 70 billion euros in financial aid Zelenskyy requested.
