Kriti Sanon says family faced abuse over Raksha Bandhan ad
Kriti Sanon has spoken out about the backlash to a jewellery advertisement for Raksha Bandhan, also called Rakhi.
Some people objected to her outfit and to the ad showing her tying a rakhi to a pet dog.
The jewellery brand took the advertisement down after the controversy.
On Kareena Kapoor’s chat show, Sanon said people who spoke about culture and respect had posted abusive comments on her parents’ and sister’s social media pages.
She said women face constant scrutiny, including criticism of what they wear, and that actors are easy targets.
Sanon had earlier defended the ad, saying the festival’s meaning comes from its emotions and traditions, and that her family extends its prayers and promises to their dogs.
She described the backlash as part of deeper gender inequality, and said women need to stand up for themselves.
