Mexico’s IMSS launches 120-day plan to cut care delays

Mexico’s IMSS has launched a 12-action plan to improve public health care over 120 days, from October 27 to February 24.

The plan addresses long surgical waits, medicine shortages and staff gaps at the institute.

It includes an 8% pay rise for about 500,000 active workers and permanent posts for 10,939 temporary employees.

The IMSS also plans to hire 2,500 medical specialists, with applications opening November 3, and buy equipment, beds and stretchers.

The institute says it will aim to carry out 31,701 surgeries through special sessions and weekend work.

The measures represent an investment of 11.745 billion pesos, and some will depend on equipment delivery schedules.

President Claudia Sheinbaum says progress should be visible over the next four months.
