SAD proposes cheaper industrial power and new ‘Build Punjab’ department
Sukhbir Singh Badal says the SAD would cut industrial power rates if it forms Punjab’s government after the 2027 Assembly election.
He made the proposals during meetings with trade and industry representatives in Patiala, Samana and Shutrana.
Badal said industrial electricity now costs ₹10–12 per unit and has made business unviable.
The party promises a rate of ₹5 per unit, and says businesses could lower costs further by installing solar plants.
A proposed ‘Build Punjab’ department would issue builders’ permissions within one month, following a model used for investment clearances.
Badal also said an SAD government would seek to deny bail to drug offenders for ten years and seize their properties.
These are campaign promises, and would depend on the SAD forming the next government.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said a future SAD government would cut industrial power prices to ₹5 per unit.
He said the party would create a ‘Build Punjab’ department to issue builders’ permissions within one month.
Badal said industrial power rates of ₹10-12 per unit had made industry unviable in Punjab.
He also proposed allowing industrialists to install solar plants, which he said could bring power rates down to ₹1.50 per unit.
The proposals were made at an interaction with trade and industry representatives in Patiala ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.
