Quebec’s new cabinet will have 22 ministers, plus the premier
Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s Parti Québécois won 59 seats in Quebec’s October 5 election, five short of the 64 needed for a majority.
The party is forming a minority government with 22 ministers, plus the premier, one of Quebec’s smallest cabinets since the 1960s.
Marie-Karlynn Laflamme will lead health and Joël Arseneau education, while Alain Therrien will head the Treasury Board.
Catherine Gentilcore will take on immigration, and former finance minister Nicolas Marceau will return to that portfolio.
The cabinet’s smaller size reflects St-Pierre Plamondon’s campaign promise to reduce the size of the government team.
Ministers are due to take their places this evening, and the party has yet to name cabinet members for two regions where it won no seats.

Marie-Karlynn Laflamme will become health minister, Joël Arseneau education minister, Nicolas Marceau finance minister and Catherine Gentilcore immigration minister.
