Italian lawyers call for oversight of David Rossi inquiry commission
David Rossi, an executive at Monte dei Paschi di Siena, died in 2013, and a parliamentary commission is investigating his death.
The commission, chaired by Gianluca Vinci, recently named two people at a news conference in connection with what it described as a mission to intimidate Rossi.
Lawyer Jacopo Pensa criticized the disclosure, saying it risked treating the named people as guilty before they had been properly judged.
The Italian criminal lawyers’ union has asked both parliamentary chamber presidents to intervene.
It wants the commission to stay within its constitutional powers and for a review of leaked information, the release of potentially secret records and how the inquiry is being conducted.
The union also says Parliament should consider what protections people called into an inquiry are entitled to, but no response or next step is reported.
