GemVax appoints Lee Jae-hong as chief medical officer

GemVax has appointed neurologist Lee Jae-hong as its new chief medical officer to lead clinical development and operations in its biotechnology business.

Lee spent more than 30 years at Seoul Asan Medical Center, where he worked in neurology and led its Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s center.

He will oversee development of treatments for conditions including progressive supranuclear palsy and ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

These are difficult-to-treat neurodegenerative diseases, and the company says they are among its main drug-development programs.

Lee has published 253 academic papers and held leadership roles in South Korea’s dementia research and policy work.

GemVax plans to strengthen its clinical trials in Korea and abroad and develop its strategy for testing treatments in additional conditions; no trial results or timetable were announced.
