Germany will raise tobacco taxes in four steps from 2027 to 2030

Germany’s parliament has approved four increases in tobacco taxes from 2027 to 2030.

The changes will make cigarettes and loose tobacco more expensive, and vapes will also cost more, according to one report.

The German government expects the average price of a 20-cigarette pack to rise from €8.05 now to €11.36 in 2030.

The increases are intended to raise tax revenue and discourage smoking.

Tobacco is currently much cheaper in Germany than in the Netherlands, so Dutch shoppers, including people from border regions, may still save money by buying it there.

The price gap will shrink but may not disappear, and the exact future prices depend partly on what manufacturers charge and on taxes in both countries.
