Search continues for missing 57-year-old hiker in Japan's Kurobe Gorge

Police are searching for 57-year-old Tetsushi Shirakami of Tokyo, who went missing while hiking in Japan's Kurobe Gorge.

On Oct.

18, a hiker reported an empty tent on the Kurobe Gorge Horizontal Trail, and mountain police found hiking gear and identification inside.

Shirakami has not been found, despite searches on Oct.

20 and 21.

The trail is for experienced hikers, with a fall potentially leading hundreds of metres down.

On the fourth day of the search, mountain police focused on an inspection path near Shiai Valley.

The search was still under way on the afternoon of Oct.

21.
