Füllkrug scores twice as Werder Bremen beat Mainz 3-2

Werder Bremen beat Mainz 3-2 away in the Bundesliga’s seventh round on Saturday.

Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug scored twice, converting two first-half penalties to put his team 2-0 ahead.

Mainz’s Anthony Caci pulled one back before half-time, and Ludovit Reis restored Bremen’s two-goal lead after the break.

Jae-sung Lee scored again for Mainz two minutes later, but the hosts could not equalise.

The win lifted Bremen above Mainz into sixth place in the league table.

Füllkrug now has eight goals this season and has scored in six consecutive Bundesliga games.

He is one game short of Werder’s club record of scoring in seven league matches in a row, set by Rudi Völler.
