Hyundai to disclose driving scores and service records for used cars

Hyundai is expanding the information available to buyers of its certified used cars in South Korea.

For cars whose previous owners agree to share their data, buyers can see the former owner’s safe-driving score and official Hyundai service records.

The score is based on driving data from the last 90 days, including sharp acceleration and braking, and applies to a period with at least 1,000 kilometres driven.

Service records can show inspections and replacement of items such as engine oil, air-conditioning filters and coolant.

Hyundai also uses digital equipment to check up to 272 items on Hyundai cars and 287 on Genesis cars, and provides inspection reports.

Electric-car reports will include more battery details, such as differences in cell voltage and temperature and records of charging and discharging, helping buyers assess the car’s condition.
