Brazil election court seeks details in case over unions and Lula’s campaign
Brazilian election judge Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva gave Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign 72 hours to add details to its case over union groups and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s re-election campaign.
The case also names Lula’s running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and union officials.
Bolsonaro’s campaign alleges that unions used money, staff and communication channels to support Lula’s campaign.
It is seeking to have Lula and Alckmin’s ticket removed over alleged abuse of political and economic power.
Cueva said the campaign had not named the alleged actions of 37 of the 54 union officials, and asked it to specify each person’s role.
Lula, Alckmin and five union representatives have five days to respond to the case.
Cueva rejected a request to restrict campaign materials at public universities, citing constitutional protection for political and electoral expression on campus.
