Turkey remembers drone pioneer Özdemir Bayraktar five years after his death

Turkish official Ömer Çelik commemorated Özdemir Bayraktar on the fifth anniversary of his death.

Bayraktar, an engineer and industrialist, died on October 18, 2021.

He helped lead Baykar’s development of Turkish unmanned aircraft, working on design, prototypes, manufacturing and investment planning.

His work included the Bayraktar TB2 and AKINCI aircraft, which were developed for Turkey’s armed forces.

His work helped shape Turkey’s domestic drone industry and its effort to build defence technology at home.

Baykar and the T3 Foundation have launched projects to preserve his memory and continue work connected to his efforts.

Baykar continues producing technology at a centre named after him, while the company has become a major exporter of unmanned aircraft.
