Brazil changes slot rules for general aviation at Congonhas Airport

Brazil’s civil aviation regulator, ANAC, changed slot rules at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo from October.

General aviation operators must contract ground services before requesting slots, including aircraft parking, cleaning and security.

Congonhas operates from 6 a.m.

to 11 p.m.

because it is in a densely populated area, limiting the time available for flights.

The airport allows 44 aircraft movements per hour: 36 slots for commercial aviation, four for general aviation and the rest for airport maintenance and manoeuvres.

ANAC says the rule is meant to reduce disruption from missing ground support and make airport operations more orderly.

Operators that break the rules can be fined up to 60,000 reais, and the airport can face a fine of up to 75,000 reais.

Rio de Janeiro’s Santos Dumont Airport also has slots for general aviation, but ANAC has not updated its rules there.
