Fonderie de Bretagne placed into liquidation, putting 244 jobs at risk

A court placed Fonderie de Bretagne into liquidation on Thursday, putting 244 jobs at risk at the industrial site in Caudan, near Lorient in western France.

The foundry makes cast-iron parts for vehicle suspensions and exhaust systems, and its production has not properly resumed since a fire halted work in January 2026.

Europlasma took over the site a little over a year ago and planned to diversify production, including making parts for mortar shells.

The CGT union says Europlasma did not pay all the promised funds and accuses the state of failing to protect the business; it also says Renault should answer for what happened.

Union representative Maël Le Goff warned that finding new work could be difficult for employees, whose average age is 49.

The CGT is calling for those involved to be held accountable, but no further steps to save the site are stated.
