IPN community to help select candidates for director, with Sheinbaum making final choice
For the first time in its 90-year history, the IPN community will help identify director candidates for Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute.
Students, teachers and staff will take part in an online consultation from November 25 to 27.
They will choose three women and three men, and the six candidates with the most support will be presented to President Claudia Sheinbaum on December 1.
Sheinbaum will make the final appointment, so this is not a direct election by the institute’s community.
Previously, the president appointed the IPN’s director without this kind of participation process.
Candidate registration is scheduled for November 2 to 6, with eligible candidates to be announced on November 18.
The new director is expected to lead the institute for four years, although the current law cited in the announcement sets three-year terms with one possible renewal.
