Riyadh to build tunnel at King Abdulaziz Road and Anas bin Malik Road junction
Riyadh’s Royal Commission is building a tunnel at the junction of King Abdulaziz Road and Anas bin Malik Road in the Saudi capital.
A traffic diversion began on November 6, 2026, closing the main King Abdulaziz Road at the junction and directing vehicles onto service roads with three lanes in each direction.
The diversion is intended to keep traffic moving while construction takes place, with alternative routes and signs prepared for road users.
The tunnel is part of a 4.7-kilometre road upgrade that also includes four bridges.
The wider project aims to handle more than 450,000 vehicles daily and improve connections between roads, reduce journey times and ease congestion.
The work is part of a city programme to develop more than 500 kilometres of Riyadh’s road network.
The sources do not give a completion date for the tunnel or the diversion.
