Police investigate after five-year-old is found injured alone in São Leopoldo

A five-year-old boy was found alone and injured on Monday morning in a wooded area in the Arroio da Manteiga neighborhood of São Leopoldo, Brazil.

Residents found him crying, with injuries to his foot and arm, and took him for medical care.

Health workers contacted the Child Protective Council, which arranged for the boy to be cared for.

He reportedly told council members that he had been assaulted.

Police are investigating suspected abuse and abandonment, and the boy’s mother and stepfather have been identified in preliminary information as suspects, though police have not confirmed who caused the injuries.

Authorities have requested urgent protective measures for the child and medical examinations to assess his injuries and psychological condition.

The investigation continues to establish what happened and who was responsible.
