Three Daejeon swim instructors honored for saving pool user

A swimmer in their 60s lost consciousness and sank underwater at Gungmin Sports Center in Daejeon on October 2.

Three instructors, Lee Min-ji, Kim Jin and Pyeon Seong-jin, pulled the swimmer from the pool and began first aid.

They performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator.

The swimmer regained consciousness before paramedics arrived and was taken to hospital.

Daejeon’s facilities corporation honored the three instructors on October 14 for their response.

The corporation said safety training had helped prepare instructors to act quickly.

It plans to strengthen first-aid and safety training for all staff at its sports facilities.
