FIFA proposes raising development funding for national football associations
FIFA has proposed a four-year development fund for football, covering 2027 to 2030.
Under the plan, each of its 211 national associations would receive up to $25 million, more than the $10 million previously planned.
FIFA says the money would support football associations, continental confederations and other organisations, with some funding tied to specific projects.
The proposal follows the collapse of a plan to raise money by bringing in private investors for a share of FIFA’s commercial rights.
FIFA says it can instead use its reserves, which grew with income from the 2026 World Cup.
The proposal has not yet been approved, and reported estimates of the total funding differ: one puts it at $6.35 billion, while another gives about $5.3 billion.
FIFA’s council is due to consider the plan, with a final version expected in December and a vote planned for March.
