Arauco rail link to Santos is more than 60% complete
A private railway for Arauco’s pulp mill is over 60% complete in Inocência, in Brazil’s Mato Grosso do Sul state.
The 45-kilometre line, plus 9 kilometres inside the factory site, will connect the mill to an existing rail network leading to the Port of Santos.
Arauco is building the mill as part of its Sucuriú project, which is expected to produce 3.5 million tonnes of short-fibre pulp each year.
The company says rail transport could remove about 190 daily truck trips from roads and cut transport-related carbon dioxide emissions by up to 94%.
The rail project includes about 95,000 sleepers, and work has begun on bridges and viaducts along its route.
Arauco expects the railway and mill to start operating in late 2027.
From Santos, the pulp is expected to be shipped to international markets.
Arauco’s EF-A35 railway, which will connect its pulp mill under construction in Inocência to the rail network leading to the Port of Santos, is more than 60% complete.
The first railway sleepers were installed in October, and about 95,000 are planned.
The 45-kilometre line will have an additional nine kilometres within the factory site.
Arauco expects the railway and factory to begin operating at the end of 2027.
