Intel beats Q3 earnings expectations but forecasts weaker Q4 revenue
Intel beat earnings expectations for the third quarter, reporting adjusted earnings of 52 cents per share.
The company’s revenue was $16.5 billion, up 21% from a year earlier.
It forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, below analysts’ $17 billion expectation.
Intel said weaker PC sales are driving the shortfall, amid higher computer prices and tougher comparisons with last year’s Windows 11 upgrade cycle.
A deadly explosion at an Intel plant in Israel, unrelated to the war, will also limit production and is expected to account for about $300 million of the revenue gap.
Strong demand for data-center chips and growth in Intel’s chip-manufacturing business provided some support in the third quarter.
Intel’s outlook points to a weaker coming quarter, and its shares fell sharply after the forecast was announced.
Intel reported third-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $0.52, above analysts’ expectations of $0.41.
Its fourth-quarter revenue forecast of $15 billion to $16 billion fell below analysts’ expectation of $17 billion.
Intel attributed the weaker outlook to a larger-than-expected decline in PC revenue.
The company said an explosion at an Intel plant in Israel is expected to account for about $300 million of the fourth-quarter revenue shortfall.
Intel shares fell more than 20% on the news, according to Yahoo Finance.
