Credit is the main way Mexicans fund Buen Fin purchases, Ipsos finds

The annual Buen Fin shopping season draws 90% of Mexican consumers, according to an Ipsos survey of 500 adults.

Seven in 10 say they take part every year, making it a regular event in Mexico’s shopping calendar.

Shoppers split their purchases evenly between online and physical stores.

Eight in 10 use credit to take advantage of discounts, while 44% also use savings and 12% say they borrowed from a financial institution.

Direct discounts are the main reason to buy, cited by 61%, while 23% point to interest-free instalments.

Six in 10 shoppers set a budget in advance, and 92% check prices before buying.

The findings show the importance of financing and price checks during Buen Fin, but the survey gives no details about what happens next.
