Turkey Seeks Equal Status in EU “Made in EU” Rules

Turkey’s Trade Minister Ömer Bolat asked for partner status under proposed EU rules during a meeting in Brussels with European Parliament official Tsvetelina Penkova.

The rules are part of the EU’s proposed Industrial Accelerator Act and would set conditions for “Made in EU” measures.

Bolat said Turkey wants recognition from the rules’ start and equal treatment across the measures.

He also asked for Turkey’s status to be written into the law, rather than left to future reviews.

Turkey and the EU are linked by a Customs Union, and Bolat said Turkey is part of Europe’s industrial and automotive supply chains.

He warned that excluding Turkey could harm European production and competitiveness; the EU legislative process is continuing, and Turkey wants its shared economic interests considered.
