Bayern beat Atlético Madrid 2-0 in Champions League

Bayern Munich beat Atlético Madrid 2-0 away in the Champions League league phase.

The win was Bayern’s second in four matches in the phase and came three days after they drew 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund.

Lennart Karl opened the scoring in the 54th minute, then celebrated with his hands by his ears and fingers moving as if talking.

His gesture followed criticism from Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß, who said the 18-year-old still needed humility; Karl’s adviser, Michael Ballack, had publicly defended him.

Konrad Laimer added Bayern’s second in the 74th minute, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer returned after missing three matches with a foot problem.

The result helps Bayern chase a top-eight finish, which would let them avoid the Champions League play-offs.

Interim coach Aaron Danks remains in charge while Vincent Kompany is ill.
